Shuo Iwakiri | Beige Bowl
This beige bowl is made by Shuo Iwakiri, a potter in Minami-Kyushu , Kagoshima Prefecture.
Each piece is made using the tatara technique, in which thinly sliced clay is pressed into a plaster mold and molded. The degree to which the clay is pressed and the distortion caused when it is removed from the mold give each piece its own character.
These works are inspired by alabaster bowls from ancient Egypt, stone plates from India and other antique items. They are characterized by their delicate beige tones and elegant texture.
