Wataru Hatano | Washi Box for tea ceremony (White)

Mr. Hatano Wataru works mainly in the field of crafts as a Kurotani washi-maker, and also creates products using washi, designs and constructs spaces, and engages in art activities at the same time.

When we visited his atelier in Ayabe, Kyoto, we were surprised to see washi used in the kitchen and even on the floor of the dressing room. Washi is a material that can be used anywhere with the appropriate processing.

Hatano Wataru's product works are made by coloring washi, and while retaining the texture of the paper, he creates products with vivid colors, blurred textures, and various other new approaches to make it easy to incorporate the appeal of washi into daily life.
