This wooden rim plate is made by Gaku Nakazawa, who produces in Ueda, Nagano Prefecture. Inspired by old Swedish wooden plates, the curved beauty of this plate is made by gouging an oak tree with a chisel and a planer, giving it a stable weight. Each grain of the wood is beautiful in its own way, and the aging process gives this piece an increased flavor. It is coated with oil and will be useful for serving fruits, cheese, bread, etc., as well as one-plate light meals.
This is a work that expresses his own interpretation of folk art, antiques, and works by contemporary artists, with thought given to the backgrounds, ideas, and customs that gave birth to them.
