Shigeo Tanaka | Blue Flower Cup
Shigeo Tanaka | Blue Flower Cup
Shigeo Tanaka lives and works in a 280-year-old house in Oku-Asuka, Nara Prefecture. His tea cups, created by learning from antiquities and interacting with nature, are suitable for Chinese tea, sake, and small one-plate dishes.
He get the clay from mountain, the workshop, and the kiln made all by himself, and the shape of the cup was created by sharpening his physical senses on the potter's wheel. The pigment used for dyeing, Gosu, was also collected from the clay, creating a poetic atmosphere of blue flowers and autumnal grasses.
