Shigeo Tanaka | Zogan small cup
Shigeo Tanaka | Zogan small cup
Shigeo Tanaka lives and works in a 280-year-old house in Oku-Asuka, Nara Prefecture. His tea cups are made by learning from antiques and communicating with nature, and can be used not only for Chinese tea, but also for sake and small one-plate dishes.
He get the clay from mountain, the workshop, and the kiln made all by himself, and used the potter's wheel to create the shapes with a keen sense of body. Zogan (inlaying) is a painstaking process of scraping iron-rich clay into grooves in the scraped pattern. The beauty increases with time.
