Taiwanese artist Kairyu has spent years collecting and studying antiques, creating works that explore the spirituality and essence imbued in objects. Since 2019, Kairyu has been crafting the Moon Phase Light series, which emits a quiet, soothing light reminiscent of the moon in the night sky. Named after the phases of the moon—new moon, full moon, crescent moon, etc.—each lamp’s shape and texture reflect light uniquely, creating a distinct atmosphere.
The “Ancient Kiln Vessels” used in these lamps share a common spiritual significance. Their organic forms combined with the circular light they emit resemble imperfect "enso" circles that breathe and carry rhythm, symbolizing truth, enlightenment, void, and the cosmos. The faint glow of moonlight provides a sense of security, inviting people to explore their inner world through the light that pierces the darkness. This work pursues the spiritual effects of form, color, texture, and touch, celebrating the beauty of shadows and subtle contrasts.
